Munitions and other supplies are loaded into gliders at an airstrip in India. C-47 transport planes tow the gliders into the air and over Burmese jungles and mountains. The gliders are released and landed at Myitkyina; troops, supplies, and heavy equipment are unloaded from them. Light planes take off from the airstrip with wounded Chinese and American troops. Gen. Stilwell deplanes and inspects the field, boards a reconnaissance plane, and is flown over a battlefield. Allied troops, supported by light artillery, advance through the jungle. Foxholes are dug at the edge of Myitkyina airstrip.

Joseph Warren Stilwell (March 19, 1883 – October 12, 1946) was a United States Army general who served in the China Burma India Theater during World War II. His caustic personality was reflected in the nickname "Vinegar Joe". He also had the nickname "Uncle Joe." Distrust of his Allies and a lack of resources meant Stilwell was continually forced to improvise.
